North Wales Cave Rescue Organisation (NWCRO) - Tîm Achub Ogof Gogledd Cymru

NWCRO is responsible for rescue incidents in the mines and caves of North Wales, - namely the old counties of Gwynedd and Clwyd. There are only a handful of sporting caves - mainly near Mold and Wrexham - the most prominent of which are:

Ogof Hesp Alyn

Ogof Hen Ffynhonnau

Ogof Llyn Du

Ogof Pool Parc

There are also numerous metal mines dotted about all over North Wales. The more prominent mining areas are:

Great Orme - copper mines

Parys Mountain, Anglesey - copper mine

Snowdonia - several old copper mines dotted about

Blaenau Ffestiniog - many extensive slate caverns

Llanrwst - old lead mines

Clwyd - extensive and abundant lead mines on Halkyn Mountain, the Alyn Valley and Minera Mountain

Dolgellau - gold mines

Corris - slate mines

Members of the NWCRO are drawn from 5 local clubs, in alphabetical order:

Grosvenor Caving Club

Great Orme Exploration Society

Gwynedd Cave & Pothole Club

North Wales Caving Club

Parys Underground Group

NWCRO also welcomes individual team members who have an interest in the area. There are two underground practice meets and a number of surface techniques meets every year.
