"The Peak Cavern is the biggest natural cavern in Derbyshire and also has the largest entrance to any cave in the British Isles. It is situated near the centre of the historic village of Castleton, beneath the imposing remains of Peveril Castle. The entrance vestibule is so large that the village of Castleton once existed inside it. The village, "where the sun never shone and the rain never rained", was built by ropemakers who carried on their craft in the entrance for over 400 years. The remains of the original rope works can still be seen today." |

| "In the heart of the Peak District National Park, at the foot of the spectacular Winnats Pass, high above the village of Castleton lies the unique Speedwell Cavern. Leaving daylight and the magnificent views behind you enter through an almost hidden door, down the 105 steps to the landing stage of an underground canal. Your guide holds the boat steady and then pushes off on an incredible journey. You glide through the workings of a 200 year old lead mine, carved from solid rock, by intrepid miners, using only the most primitive hand tools." |

| "The beautiful village of Clapham offers wonderful opportunities to explore this majestic area - both above and below ground! The magnificent Ingleborough Cave is only one of a few natural caves in the country which have been made accessible to the public and is a member of The Association of British & Irish Showcaves. It was discovered and made accessible by James Farrer, the landowner, in 1837 and people have been visiting it ever since". |
